Belize Food Tours Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where is this tour located?

We host tours on San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, an island 26 miles from Belize City.

2. Where does the tour meet/start?

We are a walking food tour. We meet in the heart of San Pedro Town at the Central Park. Once you book we send you a confirmation email with a Google pin to our meeting spot. Our guide will be there in a bright orange shirt that's says "Where is the Food?"

3. Where should I park my golf cart?

There is public parking downtown and you can usually find parking in front of Heritage Bank or on the side street, Pelican St. White spaces are available, red is unavailable. Sometimes you might have to go around the block a few times so give yourself extra time to find parking.

4. I find it a little challenging to walk long distances. Can I follow on golf cart?

Yes! Most of our walks are short, between 5-8 minutes, before we stop and sit but we've had several guests follow by golf cart. Our guides help you locate the next stop and wait for you there. There is still minimal walking from parking to the entrances.

5. Do you still offer cooking classes?

Oh how we miss it! Unfortunately we no longer offer cooking classes. We do highly recommend Ms. Shelly, Ms. Julia at Black at White Garifuna Restaurant who is excellent with Garifuna Food, and Ms Sarita. Have fun!

6. How long are the tours?

The tours takes between 2.5 to 3 hours.

6. Are there bathrooms along the way?

Absolutely! Most of our stops have bathrooms so you're always close to one.

7. Are the lunch and dinner tours different and would you recommend doing them both on the same day?

Our lunch and dinner tours have both been carefully curated to be different. There is one repeated rum tasting (because it's just that good!) and one repeated stop with an entirely different menu (even on a regular visit you can't get the same food at this stop during lunch and dinner).

8. Since they're different, can we do them both on the same day?

While they're different, we do recommend doing them on separate days. Belizean hospitality is generous, and most guests are full after one tour. We recommend a siesta after.

9. We are coming on a cruise. Is our port close by?

We're located on an island 26 miles from the cruise port. We don't recommend coming this far for our tour since you risk missing your last tender. We do hope, however, that you love Belize so much you'll be back to visit for longer. We'll be waiting!

10. Can you accommodate vegetarians and gluten free diets?

Yes! We try our very best to be as accommodating as possible. At most stops there are vegetarian and gluten free options, but sometimes it does mean that the meat was simply removed or the ingredients come on a plate rather than a tortilla. Be sure to specify your preferences when you book so we can make pre-arrangements. It's harder for us to change the menu when already on tour.

11. Can you accommodate vegans?

Great question. We try our very best to accommodate different diets and allergies as much as possible but a lot of our stops cater to locals and most locals aren't vegans. For vegans we recommend our dinner tour, since it's the most vegan friendly. There are some stops where there is no substitute, like a rum cream tasting, but we try our best to make up for it with bigger portions where there is a vegan option. Be sure to specify your preferences when you book so we can make pre-arrangements. It's harder for us to change the menu when already on tour.

12. I have a shellfish allergy and can't eat seafood. Can I still join?

Yes, definitely! You'll have a tailored menu to your diet. Be sure to specify your preferences when you book so we can make pre-arrangements. It's harder for us to change the menu when already on tour.

13. I don't eat beef or pork. Will I be able to eat?

Yes! You'll have no issues. Be sure to specify your preferences when you book so we can make pre-arrangements. It's harder for us to change the menu when already on tour.

14. I only eat seafood. Can I come.on tour?

Yes, you can! Your menu will include seafood where possible and be vegetarian where seafood is not an option.

15. Is there a dairy-free menu?

Yes there is!

16. Is there any dietary preference or allergy you can't accommodate?

It's rare that we can't accommodate a guest on tour but an allergy like onion and garlic is a difficult request. A lot of our foods are seasoned with both and we can't guarantee that there will be neither in your food. We also don't recommend the tour for people avoiding carbs. Our tour is ultimately a view of local Belizean foods and the most authentic dishes have carbs.

17. My friends are on tour, but I'm picky and will likely not be eating. Can I tag along for free?

We really wish we could just have everyone tag along, but some of our stops are small and can only seat a limited number of guests. Besides that, we value our guides and pay them well to, not only guide you from stop to stop, but create an experience that highlights our culture, the island's fabric and Belize! We hope you value them too!

18. I don't drink alcohol. Is there a discount?

No worries! At most stops you're given the option of an alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage. The non-alcoholic options include mocktails, frwsh juices, sodas or water. Sometimes the non-alcoholic options cost the same or even more than the alcoholic option and so both are the same price. Cheers!

19. What's the easiest way to book?

We have realtime availability and instant booking right here on our website. It's the easiest way to book.

20. Do I need paypal to book?

No not at all! Once you fill out your contact information you'll see the option to book with a debit or credit card when you scroll down. Message us if you have any issues. We are happy to help.

21. Can I book a large group?

The more the merrier! If you don't see enough spaces available on the tour date you'd like, send us a message and we will respond with options. We try our best to open second tours when one is full so that everyone has a chance to experience our tour. We can host about 14 guests per guide. If your group is much larger, we'll split the groups so that everyone can fit at our smaller local stops.

22. Are private tours available?

We'd love to host you and your group alone. Send us an email for availability and cost. Thank you!
